Dr. Rupa Marya is an accomplished physician, activist, writer, and musician who uniquely bridges the worlds of medicine and social justice. As the composer and lead singer of her band, Rupa & The April Fishes, Dr. Marya has toured over 29 countries, performing her diverse, multilingual music that has been described as “Liberation Music.” The band weaves global sounds with stories of human resilience, finding a profound connection between the struggles witnessed in medicine and the universal force of music. Rupa & The April Fishes are: Rupa Marya, Misha Khalikulov, Aaron Kierbel, Michael Shiono, Mario Alberto Silva, and Matthew Szemela.
