Serial entrepreneur Josh Stein shared what he’s learned about ‘smart’ devices and the internet of things as they relate to positively influencing patient behavior.

Selected by the American Diabetes Association’s Forecast magazine as one of 2013’s “People To Know,” Wharton MBA Josh Stein is a self-proclaimed “design-obsessed business guy.” Passionate about using simple technology to positively influence patient behavior, Josh and his partners at AdhereTech have created smart pill bottles that use cellular technology to monitor patient adherence in real time and remind patients to take their prescribed dosage via automated phone call or text message. Prior to founding AdhereTech, Josh worked for a number of successful startups in New York City including Lot 18, PlaceVine, and FreshDirect. Josh first appeared on the TEDMED stage in 2013 as part of Session X. In the past, he has dabbled in stand-up comedy.

Giovanni Colella co-founded Castlight Health in 2008, along with Todd Park (currently U.S. chief technology officer and formerly the CTO of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services) and Bryan Roberts of Venrock.

Prior to co-founding Castlight, Giovanni was Founder, President and CEO of RelayHealth, which was acquired by McKesson. Giovanni graduated with an M.D. from the Universita Degli Studi di Milano in Italy and earned his M.B.A. from Columbia Business School.

Mr. Enriquez is an experienced business leader, author, and academic who is recognized as one of the world’s leading authorities on the economic and political impacts of life sciences. He is a Managing Director in Excel Venture Management, a venture capital firm that invests in companies that apply transformative life science technologies to solve problems in healthcare and beyond.

He was the founding director of Harvard Business School’s Life Sciences Project. He then founded Biotechonomy LLC, a life sciences research and investment firm, where he remains as Chairman and CEO. In July of 2005, he co-founded Synthetic Genomics, Inc., a synthetic biology company focused on developing and commercializing genomic-driven solutions to address global energy, medicine, clean water, and food challenges. He has been an active investor in early-stage private companies in the biotechnology and information sciences sectors. While at Harvard, he wrote various articles and case studies, won a McKinsey Prize, and published the best-selling As the Future Catches You, an analysis of the impact of genomics on business and society. His most recent publication is an eBook co-authored with Dr. Steve Gullans, Homo Evolutis: A Short Tour of our New Species, which describes a world where humans increasingly shape their environment, themselves, and other species. Mr. Enriquez serves on a number of boards including Cabot Corporation, Synthetic Genomics, Catch.com, Shape Up, the Public Interfaces Steering Committee of the Division of Earth & Life Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences, The Genetics Advisory Council of Harvard Medical School, The Chairman’s International Council of the America’s Society, and the Visiting Committee of Harvard’s David Rockefeller Center.

He earned a BA and MBA from Harvard, with Honors.

Michael is Founder and CEO of Humedica, recently acquired by UnitedHealth Group. Previously, he was CEO of PharMetrics, which was sold to IMS Health in 2005. Michael has 30 years of experience in healthcare information technology. He is Founding Chairman of Phreesia, and sits on the Board of the medical informatics subsidiary of the American Medical Group Association (AMGA).  Michael is on the Board of JDRF New England Chapter. He received his MBA from Harvard Business School and his BA in Economics from Brandeis University.
