He currently serves as the Chief Development Officer of the Digital Surgery Group at Johnson & Johnson, a role where he continues to focus on robotic surgery. Fred’s career is marked by the founding of several influential companies that have transformed the field of surgery. He was the founder and CEO of Intuitive Surgical, Inc., a company best known for its da Vinci Surgical System, a widely used robotic platform for minimally invasive surgery. After leaving Intuitive Surgical, he co-founded Hansen Medical, specializing in robotic systems for cardiovascular procedures. Most recently, Fred founded Auris Health, Inc., a company focused on developing robotic technologies for the diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer. In 2019, Johnson & Johnson acquired Auris Health in a deal valued at over $3 billion, leading to his current position. Throughout his career, Fred’s work has consistently aimed to create robotic tools that make surgery safer and less invasive for patients.
