Scott was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in April of 1980 and has been writing about his diabetes since late 2004. His blog (scottsdiabetes.com) is followed by fellow patients from all over the world. Scott’s communication strategy is integral to mySugr’s approach as a mobile health platform to change how diabetes therapy is perceived. Messaging across different channels via different devices drives empowerment and motivation in a dose customized for each user. In particular, the mechanisms of interaction attempt to trigger behavioral change by optimizing use of existing diabetes therapy tools, in some cases via a direct synchronization and link with the mySugr e-health platform. His roles as a community leader and advisor span from local patient support group meetings to International conferences like Children With Diabetes’ Annual Friends for Life, the largest meeting of it’s kind worldwide. ‘Telling my story has allowed me to bravely advocate for diabetes awareness and give back to a community that has improved my own life in so many ways. The mySugr community is no different. With over 100 000 users now, many stories are being told and they are changing peoples lives every day.” Scott lives with his family near Minneapolis, MN.
