Dr. Cheryl Holder is a distinguished physician, professor, and advocate known for her dedication to serving underserved communities. A Fellow of the American College of Physicians, she focuses on the connection between social factors, such as poverty and environment, and their impact on a person’s health. She is a key leader at Florida International University’s (FIU) Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, where she directs the Green Family Foundation NeighborhoodHELP™ Education and Pipeline Program. This program works to encourage diversity in medicine by preparing students from underrepresented backgrounds for careers in healthcare. Cheryl’s work extends beyond the clinic as she actively addresses critical public health issues. She is a leading voice in the fight against HIV and has gained national recognition for her research on how climate change affects vulnerable populations. Her commitment to this cause is evident in her role as co-chair of Florida Clinicians for Climate Action, an organization dedicated to educating healthcare professionals and the public about the health risks imposed by a changing climate. As a past president of the Florida State Medical Association, she has been recognized with numerous awards for her community service and humanism in medicine, including the prestigious Tow Humanism in Medicine Award.
