Mudit Garg: AI will fix healthcare’s biggest and least sexy problem

Top 10 Big Data Companies Disrupting Healthcare

Q: What is the story behind the central idea that inspired the creation of your organization/company?

A: Qventus’ CEO and co-founder Mudit Garg believed that the healthcare system was failing clinicians. Today’s staff are drowning in dashboards and reports and have no time to look at them critically in real-time, when it matters most.

Mudit and the team at Qventus want to help hospitals and health systems evolve into organizations that adapt in the moment, based on the situation, to provide the best care to patients. To do this, hospitals need a path from systems of record (EMRs) to systems of action with real-time insights provided by data at the time of care. Qventus is that path. A platform that enables real-time, data-based decision making across hospital operations.

Q: What's the most inventive, innovative, or disruptive aspect of your initiative?

A:

Qventus is a platform for operational decision-making using artificial intelligence and machine learning to extract actionable insights from the data that hospitals generate every day. The artificial intelligence-based software solution is constantly monitoring data flow throughout the hospital and provides text-based “nudges” to the front-line teams so that they can take appropriate course corrections in the moment, before bottlenecks occur. The system also provides at-a-glance dashboard views for care teams that need to view the data from monitors. And, the system provides executive teams the ability to evaluate data at a deep-dive level for any snapshot in time, without the need of a dedicated data analyst. Results include improved financial performance, enhanced patient experience and safety while reducing cognitive burden on frontline teams.

The numbers speak for themselves:

  • Within five months of deploying Qventus, Mercy Hospital Ardmor’s ER saw a 55 percent decrease in patients who left without being seen.
  • Six months after implementation, El Camino Hospital reduced patient falls by 39 percent.

Q: What single word or phrase best describes the culture of your startup and why?

A: GSD or “Get Stuff Done.” There is incredible focus and discipline around delivering on customer satisfaction and key business results.

Q: If you had a theme song, what would it be and why?

A: Tubthumping also known as “I Get Knocked Down” by Chumbawamba. Because this company is chock full of people who will always get back up again. The Qventus team is the embodiment of persistence.
