BroadReach Healthcare

BroadReach Healthcare is a mission-driven data analytics company recognized internationally for its work with governments, donors and the private sector to improve the health and wellbeing of underserved populations globally. Through their work, they've learned leaders are constrained by fragmented data, and analysis frequently does not address the challenges of complex health system inequities. This lack of data-driven insight hinders the development of effective policies and programs, and prevents commercial enterprises from identifying and serving the highest-potential markets. To close this “insight gap” they've developed the BroadReach Analytics platform, providing one hub for collection, integration and analysis of big data in real-time and over time. BroadReach transforms analysis into evidence-based insights, empowering leaders to focus resources for maximum impact while bringing transparency and accountability to the process.

Q: What historical breakthrough do you think is most underappreciated or misunderstood?

A: We don’t believe we can overestimate the power of public-private partnerships in creating systemic change for underserved populations.  In our work over the past decade, we have observed and have also been involved in programs that have saved the lives of thousands of HIV patients.  These models have not scaled significantly due to lack of awareness and/or misunderstanding of public-private partnerships.

Q: Please tell us how your business idea was conceived. Was there an "aha" moment or did it evolve gradually?

A: The idea to develop BroadReach Analytics evolved from over a decade of working hand-in-hand with governments, multinational health organizations, donors and life science companies – recognizing that a lack of evidence-based insights was limiting the potential of all of our efforts to improve access to quality healthcare in a sustainable way.
The available data was fragmented and incomplete, and often overlooked the impacts of key metrics, including the social determinants of health. We needed predictive modelling and data visualisation tools, not just dashboards and scorecards that do not address the challenges of complex health system inequities. So we found it necessary to develop a powerful analytics platform and place it at the core of our healthcare solutions.

Q: I am #BreakingThrough...

A: I am #BreakingThrough traditional HC models with a platform that integrates social, economic & health data for insights to maximize impact

Q: If you had a theme song, what would it be and why?

A: "Beautiful Day" by U2.  We believe that every day is a blessing, and brings opportunities to live our lives to the fullest to make a positive impact in the world.

Q: What single word or phrase best describes the culture of your startup and why?

A: Pragmatic visionaries.

Q: What's the most inventive, innovative, or disruptive aspect of your initiative?

A: Our platform fuels a quantum leap in health care policy and program performance, sustainability and accountability. The BroadReach platform includes:
Real-time data collection
A powerful and accessible tools for data integration, analysis, and visualization
Strategic consulting and on-the-ground operational support
We consider these three capabilities requisites for collaborations to improve outcomes in the most effective and efficient manner possible.

Q: What advancement has made the work you're doing possible?

A: Big data analytics. We are all well aware of the profound divide between the application of big data in developed markets—where some believe governments and companies know too much—and in developing countries where all agree they know too little to provide life-enhancing services.
The BroadReach platform drives the understanding of the current state and identifies levers for improvement that will accelerate not only citizen access to better health, but also education, employment, energy and other social services.
