CareSync

CareSync is a family of passionate healthcare IT thinkers and makers who build products and services that help fix the communication problems in healthcare. We focus on building user-friendly, easy-to-use applications, and combine them with exceptional services to help people access and share their healthcare information, experience better medical visits, and collaboratively manage health with family, care teams, and providers. The need for the CareSync solution really hit home when one of our own families was given a diagnosis for a rare, chronic disease. The struggles that came with juggling the complicated components of managing illness called for a solution that was simple, collaborative, and affordable. The unique combination of applications and services gives access to comprehensive health information, makes it meaningful and easy to understand, promotes collaboration between family, caregivers, and doctors, and provides convenient services when they are needed most. Each of our endeavors is driven by our passion for helping make communication in healthcare better. We continuously adapt our products and services to create meaning and value for each of our diverse members, through great design, robust functionality, and reliable accessibility.

Q: Please tell us how your business idea was conceived. Was there an "aha" moment or did it evolve gradually?

A:

The daughter of CareSync COO Amy Gleason was diagnosed in 2010 with a rare autoimmune disease. The Gleason family suddenly faced multiple care providers, visits with super specialists across the country, regular hospital stays, many missed days of school, and over 20 daily medications. Amy tried patient portals, apps, and even traditional paper binders as means to acquire, coordinate, and share access to her daughter’s medical information among her many caregivers. The task was overwhelming. Amy and CareSync CEO Travis Bond wondered, if managing healthcare information is a such a challenge for someone with a nursing background who has spent her career in healthcare IT, then how could the average person facing a new diagnosis handle it? Travis and Amy had built Clinician™ electronic health record/practice management software together in 2003. They reunited their team to focus on the patient and caregiver healthcare experience.

Q: What's the most inventive, innovative, or disruptive aspect of your initiative?

A: What consistently sets CareSync apart from other solutions, is that we do the work for the patient, flipping the traditional healthcare experience upside down. CareSync removes the four main barriers to patient engagement by giving users: acess to medical records; meaningful information that is easy to understand and simply shared;
a way to collaborate with family, caregivers, and healthcare providers; and convenience through care coordination services and mobile tools.

Our Health Timeline™ provides a summary of healthcare encounters and profile information that can easily be filtered and shared. After each visit, CareSync updates the health profile and creates medication reminders and follow-up tasks that make up the provider’s care plan. Family members can participate in the patient’s care by receiving alerts and notifications to help keep the patient on track and adding information to the profile.

Technology is integral to advancing healthcare, but it's CareSync’s people who make difference that improves outcomes.

Q: How will it help people live to their greatest potential or contribute to making the world healthier?

A: CareSync gives patients the data they need to avoid duplicate tests, catch medical errors, remember post-visit medical plans, understand and track medication usage, and conveniently stay current with medical appointments and tests. It also empowers families to rally around patients to achieve better results. And for healthy people, CareSync provides tools and services to track wellness to maintain general well-being.

Q: Five years from now, what would you like to be able to say has been your most important contribution to health?

A: We hope to have given patients the ability to feel confident in healthcare, helped caregivers take better care of family members who need help, and made a difference in the healthcare experience for those who need it most, when they need it most. Along the way, we know we’ll also improve quality and reduce costs for all the stakeholders in healthcare.

Q: What single word or phrase best describes the culture of your startup and why?

A: Our culture is focused on making patients, their families, and caregivers feel like badasses when it comes to their health!
