Medlio

Medlio is a mobile and online healthcare provider search engine that helps consumers find, connect and transact with providers. Unbiased, relevant search results simplify the process of finding a doctor. Users can filter search criteria by attributes such as insurance accepted, operating hours, location, specialties, and more. Providers can set up a free account to claim their profiles, add detailed information, and get found by more consumers. Premium tools enhance patient-provider connections with point-of-care price-transparency, online appointment scheduling, instant messaging, and results delivery.

Q: Please tell us how your business idea was conceived. Was there an "aha" moment or did it evolve gradually?

A: Having worked closely with patients, providers, and even insurance companies, we realized that you cannot have real patient engagement until you engage the entire ecosystem and put the patient at the center of that.

We see that there is a real opportunity, perhaps for the first time, to engage patients and providers directly at the point of interaction. The economics and the incentives are firmly in place. The only thing needed is the right technology.

Q: What's the most inventive, innovative, or disruptive aspect of your initiative?

A: We think the most disruptive aspect of Medlio is to place the patient at the center of healthcare communications, ironic as that seems. Existing channels are commonly proprietary, singularly focused, or exist primarily for backend transactions; they exclude patients mostly, if not altogether, and leave them with a complete lack of visibility into their own healthcare transactions.

Q: How will it help people live to their greatest potential or contribute to making the world healthier?

A: Arguably the greatest problem in healthcare is connectivity. Collaborating clinicians are disconnected from each other, information systems are disconnected from other systems, and patients are disconnected from providers and even their own health information.

Much of this can be blamed on the lack of a free universal, technology-, provider-, and payer-agnostic communications channel. Medlio is creating that channel with unfettered reliable, anytime, anywhere, any-device access.

Q: Five years from now, what would you like to be able to say has been your most important contribution to health?

A: That Medlio has helped close the gaps in healthcare communication and in access to information.

Q: What single word or phrase best describes the culture of your startup and why?

A: Two words: Transparent and inclusive.
