Company Profile:

eTect, Inc.

eTect is capitalizing on the opportunity to enable a new universe of connected devices through its innovative connected sensor solutions. Our first application, ID-Cap, is a capsule for medication that emits a digital wireless message when it is ingested by a patient. This capability enables real time monitoring of medication compliance and has the potential to create tremendous savings in the healthcare industry.

Q: Please tell us how your business idea was conceived. Was there an "aha" moment or did it evolve gradually?

A: The business idea came from a desire to address the problem of poor medication adherence. The initial idea, to develop a technology that could chemically detect the ingestion of medication, gradually evolved into a technology that could detect medication electronically.

Q: What's the most inventive, innovative, or disruptive aspect of your initiative?

A: Our ability to develop an in-body communications platform that has many applications.

Q: How will it help people live to their greatest potential or contribute to making the world healthier?

A: Medicines cannot help if patients don't take them. eTect's ID-Cap will help improve medicating behaviors by providing real-time adherence information to patients, providers, and caretakers. Better adherence will lead to better treatment outcomes, which in turn will make the world healthier.

Q: Five years from now, what would you like to be able to say has been your most important contribution to health?

A: That we have encouraged and improved medication adherence. We want to a make sure that patients are getting the most possible value from the medication that has been prescribed to them. We would like to see the appropriate utilization of every nickel spent in healthcare.

Q: What single word or phrase best describes the culture of your startup and why?

A: Persistence. We have been very focused on developing a solution for poor medication adherence. We have pursued the problem diligently, and the persistence and hard work of our team members has led to the development of a useful technology.
