Michael Penn, MD, PhD
Physician Scientist, and Founder, Penn Consulting Partners
Michael L. Penn, Jr, is a physician scientist committed to empowering others.  He is the founder of Penn Consulting Partners and advises startups and non-profit organizations on strategy, business development and fundraising.  He is also CEO of terma.io, an early stage startup harnessing machine and deep learning to increase emotional intelligence. Previously he served as CEO of the Gladstone Foundation and Vice President at the Gladstone Institutes, an independent biomedical research enterprise in San Francisco.   Prior to Gladstone, he worked for more than 8 years at Genentech Inc. in marketing and business development roles of increasing responsibility. Michael co-founded the non-profit Building Diversity in Science and co-authored a book, Finding Your North, dedicated to encouraging students to pursue careers in science. He also previously served as one of seven Commissioners responsible for overseeing and setting policy for San Francisco’s Department of Public Health.  Michael currently serves on the boards of St. Francis Memorial Hospital and Conscious Capitalism Bay Area.  He earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Morehouse College and a combined MD-PhD from the University of California, San Francisco.
