Become a Partner of TEDMED

Partner participation is an essential component of TEDMED, and no two partnerships are alike.  We work with partners committed to innovation and multidisciplinary collaboration as a means to creating a better future in health and medicine.  With a holistic understanding of each Partner’s goals, we work together to leverage elements within our existing platforms or we create new experiences altogether.

In turn, partner support makes it possible for us to create the event, grant scholarships to exceptional individuals, and simulcast TEDMED to medical institutions, universities, medical colleges, research institutions, government agencies and other non-profits around the globe at no charge.

Understanding a few of our venues will help you leverage our platform best:

     1) The Event – An Annual Gathering at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC
     2) TEDMED Live – The event that happens around the globe
     3) The Scholarship Program - Exceptional individuals at the front lines of medicine
     4) The Hive – Creating unexpected connections
     5) The Great Challenges Program – 20 Great Challenges explored year round

Common elements among our partnerships are event benefits such as pre-approved Delegate passes, invitation to private receptions, promotional support, social media and press coordination, complimentary access to On Demand and Live simulcast, privileges on Delegate nominations, transfers, etc. None of our partnerships come with stage speaking slots, though our independent editorial team will gladly consider speakers and topics of importance to you. Most partnerships incorporate some elements from our various platforms.  Each partnership is unique.  Examples range from organizing a private event within TEDMED, to a Leadership Conversation at the Walker Library broadcast to our affiliates, to a social experience in the Hive.

Please consider partnering with TEDMED. Our CEO or our Partnership Development Office responds to all partner inquiries within 24 hours:

TEDMED is delighted to acknowledge the support of our Partners. Like TEDMED, these thought leaders are passionate about the future of health and medicine. Their underwriting and participation are essential to TEDMED, and make it possible for us to grant scholarships to Delegates and to distribute simulcasts at no charge to qualified non-profits. We thank our Partners for their invaluable role in accomplishing TEDMED’s mission.

Robert Wood Johnson Foundation

As the nation's largest philanthropy devoted solely to the public's health, we have a unique capability and responsibility to confront the most pressing health and health care problems threatening our society. Our efforts focus on improving both the health of everyone in America and their health care—how it's delivered, how it's paid for, and how well it does for patients and their families. As we invest in improving systems through which people receive care and in fostering environments that promote health and prevent disease and injury, we expect to achieve comprehensive, meaningful, and timely change.

We are guided by a fundamental premise: we are stewards of private funds that must be used in the public's interest. Our greatest asset isn't our endowment; it's the way we help create leverage for change.

We create leverage by building evidence and producing, synthesizing and distributing knowledge, new ideas, and expertise. We harness the power of partnerships by bringing together key players, collaborating with colleagues, and securing the sustained commitment of other funders and advocates to improve the health and health care of all Americans.

Target

Better Health for All
We aim to help our guests, team members and their families reach their well-being goals by providing convenient, healthy choices at affordable prices. Learn more about our resources, partnership and support in the following areas:

What we stand for:

A legacy of giving and service
Supporting communities through giving has always been a cornerstone of our business and a belief that guides so many of our decisions. Each year, we’ve given 5 percent of our profit to communities, which adds up to more than $4 million each week. We also believe that donating our time, talent and resources is equally important as the income we give. Our team members give hundreds of thousands of hours volunteering in their communities every year.

Strong, healthy, safe communities
In order to build the strong, healthy and safe communities we want for our team members and guests, we work closely with partners and organizations. In fact, we've challenged ourselves to meet corporate responsibility goals in the areas of education, environment, team member well-being and volunteerism. These goals will be our road map in the years to come.

A great place to work
We’re devoted to helping our more than 365,000 team members throughout the world live well and achieve their goals, knowing that their diverse perspectives, talents and commitment make both our company and our communities the best they can be. We support team members’ paths to health and well-being through resources, services and benefits programs for eligible team members, spouses, domestic partners and other dependents. And we develop leaders and invest in team members’ futures through career development and networking opportunities.

nurture by Steelcase

We are surrounded by a vast range of environments and situations as part of our lifelong health and wellness journeys. Sometimes we have control over a portion of that environment. But more often, we rely on others to make decisions on our behalf before we arrive. What should a hospital room look like? How should an infusion bay feel? Where will my family sit and rest while I am undergoing treatments?

Nurture by Steelcase brings insight-led design to those important healthcare moments where people, technology and space come together. We observe real-life connections between clinicians and patients to anticipate their needs within physical environments. We encourage you to join us at TEDMED 2012 to bring the future of healthcare to everyone and every place.

Fitbit

Fitbit is dedicated to helping people lead healthier, more active lives. We take a common sense approach to fitness, and believe that the key is to make it easier for consumers to be more active, eat smarter, and get enough sleep — in short, that small changes to your daily routine can add up to big results. To that end, we aim to create innovative, inspiring products and online services that harness the power of new technologies to make people more aware of their everyday activities and motivate them to do more.

The Breakaway Group

The Breakaway Group, A Xerox Company, is committed to making a difference in healthcare.

We aim to literally “change the game” in terms of how healthcare professionals choose to develop new skills in their quest to adopt technologies in Healthcare. In the near future we will have educated over 1 million healthcare professionals using our research-based method. When we reach this important milestone we believe the associated results will propel healthcare leaders to change the way they approach IT implementations and their overall expectations of long-term adoption.

In pursuit of our mission, we help healthcare professionals adopt new software applications faster and more effectively than ever imagined.

  • In the process we’re giving back critical time for providers to care for patients;
  • We’re guiding clinicians and support staff toward measured levels of proficiency and confidence;
  • We’re helping healthcare executives achieve needed financial outcomes;
  • And we are reducing the overall stress on those undertaking the implementation of technologies in healthcare.

Cisco

Use the Power of In-Person Collaboration
How do you promote bigger ideas and better innovation? Make it easy for your experts to put their heads together. Cisco TelePresence offers the easiest, most dynamic way for dispersed teams to get together. It's where talent and technology meet.

Not only can you bring experts together to solve problems on the fly, but you can also use the power of TelePresence to unify your supply chain, provide highly engaged customer service, train remote teams, and more. Think beyond the boardroom. Transform your business processes with Cisco TelePresence.

Cisco TelePresence helps you:

Make the Best Use of Employee Time
Frequent video participants report saving at least two hours weekly, with one-third reporting at least one day saved per week.Telepresence solutions have helped them save money, improve work-life balance, increase their competitive advantage, and bring people closer together.

Speed Decision Making
Accelerate business-critical decision making, shorten sales cycles, reduce time to market, and create new forums for collaboration.

Cut Travel Costs
Many customers reduce their business travel by 30 percent or more when implementing TelePresence. In fact, the cost of two international business trips will pay for a video conferencing system. Trygvesta, a large Nordic insurance company with 2 million customers, reduced travel from 180 to 130 trips per month, saving at least $120,000.

Consider the Opportunity Costs
The true cost of travel is not just a plane ticket and hotel. Time on the road could be spent being more productive, bringing new products to market, reducing repair time, or meeting with more clients.

Transform Business Processes
TelePresence makes it easy for teams to collaborate, innovate, and resolve issues. Now you can bring those benefits to customer service, supply chain management, and training; redefine best practices; and accelerate ROI even more.

Be Greener
Here is another way to reduce CO2 emissions: 100 employees using video once a week instead of commuting would save the equivalent of a forest the size of five football fields.

How to Get Started
We can help you select the right applications and solutions to support your specific business strategy and business models. Cisco can also work with your IT staff to set up pilot programs within important departments. You will be making a transformation to the new way to work on a foundation of quality, reliability, and interoperability across industry standards.

The California Endowment is a private, statewide health foundation with a mission to build a stronger state by expanding access to affordable, quality health care to underserved communities and improving the overall health of all Californians.

Health Happens Here is the core of our work. It challenges us to think about people's heath beyond the doctor's office and beyond the good vs. bad choices people make. In reality, our health happens where we live, learn, work and play—in neighborhoods, schools, and with prevention.

The California Endowment was established in 1996 as a result of Blue Cross of California's creation of its for-profit subsidiary, WellPoint Health Networks. Since then, we've invested in health broadly, from strengthening the safety net for families struggling with poverty to diversifying the health care workforce.

The lessons learned from early investments were the genesis for Health Happens Here and the 10-year, $1 billion Building Healthy Communities plan, in which residents in 14 places are working to transform their neighborhoods.

Royalty Pharma

Since its inception in 1996, Royalty Pharma has expanded the traditional parameters that define a pharmaceutical company. By focusing on intellectual property - the key to premium pricing and profits in the pharmaceutical industry - Royalty Pharma has become the global leader in the acquisition of royalty interests. Royalty Pharma has assembled a well-diversified and well-balanced portfolio of royalties in leading biopharmaceutical products achieving rapid and profitable growth with a managed risk profile.

The origins of Royalty Pharma can be traced to the 1980s when certain members of Royalty Pharma’s Investment Committee and Management Team pioneered the use of royalty interests to fund the clinical development of several leading biotechnology products through “Research & Development Partnerships.” In 1993 and 1994, when these R&D partnerships started earning royalties, two product-specific "proof of principle" acquisition vehicles were established to acquire royalty interests in Neupogen® and ReoPro®. The success of those efforts led to the founding in 1996 of Royalty Pharma’s predecessors: Pharmaceutical Royalties, LLC (Delaware, USA) and Pharmaceutical Royalty Investments, Ltd. (Bermuda). Subsequently in 2003, Royalty Pharma was established as an Irish Unit Trust, to consolidate the operations of its predecessors and to facilitate a new business model for the Company.

Florida Blue

Florida Blue has a long history of providing health-related solutions. Today, the focus remains primarily in the health industry, but Florida Blue is more than a health insurer. In response to a vastly changing marketplace, Florida Blue is involved with companies to meet the diverse needs of the health industry overall.

Through the parent company, its family of subsidiaries and joint ventures, Florida Blue offers a broad choice of affordable products and services. It also actively collaborates to find innovative solutions that address key consumer concerns such as costs, care access and health information technology.

Understanding and having a position on the issues and related laws, bills, regulations, and/or governmental proposals that affect the health care and insurance industry, our family of companies, and most importantly, our members, is something Florida Blue takes seriously.

The organization responds to these external forces in a proactive way by meeting directly with lawmakers, regulators, trade associations and nationally recognized public policy leaders, giving them our position - and the facts to back them up - on the issues at hand. It also engages members and other consumers to communicate with their representatives the impact proposed legislation would have on their families, their businesses and their employees.

GE Healthymagination

Elevate
Innovative, disruptive, passionate. Seeking to build stronger relationships between patients and doctors, GE created the healthymagination initiative to gather, share and discuss healthy ideas. GE finds great value in understanding and participating in health discussions with thought leaders, like those in the TEDMED community, as a means to advance our work. It is only through collaboration that we will achieve effective change in health.

Energize
At TEDMED 2012, GE brought attention and focus to the community health work they partnered to bring about in Cincinnati, Ohio. Impacting health is complex, and collaboration that pushes and pulls change across systems is essential to identifying the best ideas and driving innovation. Employers, employees, governments, hospitals, doctors, and insurers – all of these players must collaborate to affect greater change for the entire community. GE and partners articulated a clear vision in Cincinnati, aiming to create a system that enables healthcare to be a competitive advantage. Its common approach looks at a new breed of healthcare system that offers high-value care and puts patients and families first to achieve high-quality outcomes.

Engage
GE ‘s experience brought the Cincinnati story to life for the TEDMED delegates, augmented by a presentation by Todd Park, United States Chief Technology Officer, on the TEDMED 2012 stage. In the GE social hub space, TEDMED Delegates interacted with:
Stats of the Union, a data visualization that illustrated areas of health potential across the U.S. to effect change
Cincinnati Ethnography Videos which displayed the work done in Cincinnati through the voices of those who participated
Care Innovation Display which illustrated a remote monitoring solution, which can lower healthcare costs from chronic disease

nurture

  • ELEVATE
Nurture by Steelcase is committed to understanding the ways in which the physical design of our environments influence human wellness. From the design of acute care patient rooms, to the design of our workplaces and our homes, environments can be tools for healing if we make the right choices. Our cultural and often unconscious connections to the space around us require a systemic, yet uniquely human approach to creating our surroundings.

    ENERGIZE
In collaborating with TEDMED on designing social spaces, Nurture by Steelcase accessed our years of user-centered research on the ways in which people connect through space and information. Our goal: To encourage connections in spaces that invited serendipitous meetings.  We also designed spaces to offer Delegates an appreciation for the subtle ways in which physical environments color human experiences. Understanding is the first step of the design process – often defining the problem in a new, evocative way.

    ENGAGE
Asking the right questions can empower anyone to become a design thinker – to see the world differently today with hopes of impacting our future. To this end, Nurture by Steelcase created a space for asking micro-questions as a way for Delegates to find a personal starting point.
By tapping into the multiple ways people learn and digest information, the space gave Delegates a chance to use various modes for reflection and connection.

    - Delegates who visited the Nurture by Steelcase space and tried on the Ford Third Age Suit – which simulates the aging process –became storytellers for the role of empathy in design.

    - Other Delegates chose to leave messages or questions on a chalkboard-gathering table recounting their impressions on the tremendous thinking from the TEDMED stage. Making inspiration visible helps to make it doable.

    - All Delegates were invited to take a mini-question tile home to continue the conversation, and to photograph visual cues as inspiration for the role objects and spaces could play in the future of health and medicine.

The Breakaway Group

WHERE DOES HEALTH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY MEET THE BIG PICTURE FOR HEALTH AND MEDICINE?

The Healthcare Forum and TEDMED.
The best of both worlds.

Imagine enjoying a full day of practical, tech-focused conversations with peers among America’s most influential healthcare executives, technologists and educators, discussing the industry’s most pressing issues and the most innovative HIT solutions.

This one-day event is our famous annual Healthcare Forum. It’s where the top 100 healthcare executives are brought together by The Breakaway Group. Now imagine that after the Forum stretches our minds, we’re not done ... we all join together and walk over to the most exciting health technology “retreat” in the entire world — TEDMED.

We have created a special partnership between the Healthcare Forum and TEDMED. That’s why the Healthcare Forum moved from Denver to Washington, DC, becoming part of TEDMED while retaining its own identity.

The Forum offers an intimate experience of one-on-one networking and speakers who specialize in the future of Health Information Technology.  TEDMED attracts thinkers and doers, from across disciplines, seeking to create a better future in health and medicine.  Combined, it’s an experience like no other.

Robert Wood Johnson Foundation

The Great Challenges Program is made possible by The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

The Great Challenges of Health and Medicine are complex, persistent problems that have medical and non-medical causes, impact millions of lives, and affect the well-being of all of America – beginning with patients, and extending to families and citizens everywhere.

These knotty problems are not susceptible to simple cures, magic bullets or “one-size-fits-all” solutions because they stem from broad, interlocking social, economic and psychological sources as well as from medical or scientific triggers. What’s more, each challenge creates multiple, overlapping effects that may cut across all sectors of society.

The mission of TEDMED’s Great Challenges Program is not to solve these complex problems. Instead, we propose to provide America and the world with an unbiased and broadly inclusive view of these challenges, incorporating thoughtful, multidisciplinary perspectives.

TEDMED believes that through an open, ongoing dialog with our intellectually diverse community, we can move toward a broad-based understanding of each challenge. Such an understanding can, in turn, set the stage for truly effective action.

The Great Challenges Program encourages everyone’s input. Doctors, scientists and researchers, of course – also technology innovators, business and government leaders, patients, legal experts, representatives of the armed forces, and the media. Quite simply, if you have a stake to protect…an idea to contribute…or a cause to promote, we want to hear from you!
